
WHAT IS GIRLUP?
What GirlUp focuses on is encouraging and empowering young girls in our Clubs to prepare for the transition from being Great Girls to Great Women.
GirlUp recognizes and builds awareness around the experiences that Boys & Girls Clubs is providing to young women so that they leave the Club as innovators, leaders and doers.
The Boys & Girls Clubs of Tampa Bay will be celebrating 35 years of service to young ladies this year by highlighting the many programs and services that help them achieve goals, overcome hurdles and BE GREAT
HIGH TEA IN PLANT CITY
In support of celebrating 35 years of service to young women in Tampa Bay and benefitting the Plant City Boys & Girls Club, GirlUp High Tea in Plant City will unite partners and friends in the community and Club Members that attend the Plant City Boys & Girls Club.
The event will feature a traditional tea service, savory finger sandwiches and delicious sweets. Program will include special guest speaker
Guests will have the chance to network with longstanding and prominent community members as well as meet and mingle with the direct beneficiaries of the event – Club youth!



Dr. LaNetra Tate
She joined NASA’s Kennedy Space Center, Titusville, Fla., in October 2005 where she worked in the polymer chemistry and materials science groups focusing on composites and nanocomposites. Dr. Tate currently works at NASA’s Headquarters within the Space Technology Mission Directorate as program executive for the Game Changing Development Program.

SMART GIRLS
Offers young women – ages 8 to 17 – guidance toward healthy attitudes
and lifestyles, eating right, staying fit, getting good health care and more.
TRIPLE PLAY
Designed to incorporate healthy living and active learning in every part
of the Club experience, Healthy Habits emphasizes good nutrition, regular
physical activity and improving overall well-being.
DATE SMART
Through fun and easy-to-use sessions, Club Members learn how to achieve
mutually supportive relationships free of violence and abuse. The program
also encourages youth to become community advocates for relationships
that promote equality and respect while combating attitudes and behaviors
that lead to dating, sexual and domestic violence.
STEAM
The purpose of STEAM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Art, Math) is to
combine innovation with creativity to help youth excel. STEAM programs in
the Boys & Girls Club engage underrepresented youth, especially females, in
these disciplines and sets them on the path to successful careers.
YES ACADEMY
Career exploration and skill training program targeted to teens 16-18 years
that exposes young people to various career fields.
MILLION MEMBERS, MILLION HOURS OF SERVICE
Community service initiative that engages youth in their community.

YOUTH OF THE YEAR
Since 1947, the Youth of the Year program has been Boys & Girls Clubs of America’s premier recognition initiative celebrating the
extraordinary achievements of Club members. Each year, one exceptional Club member is selected to be the National Youth of the
Year. The National Youth of the Year serves as an exemplary ambassador for Boys & Girls Club youth and as a strong voice for all of
our nation’s young people.
