Meet Octavius
Growing up in a violent community, Octavius was exposed to negative influences daily in his neighborhood. Boys & Girls Clubs of Tampa Bay offered him not only refuge but access to programs that helped him find Academic Success. As a result, he graduated high school with honors and aspires to be a mechanical engineer. Octavius is grateful to Boys & Girls Clubs of Tampa Bay and hopes to give back to help others. ”I want to keep opening doors to new opportunities and supporting my community because the experience I had at the Boys & Girls Club, I could not have gotten anywhere else.”
Programs like Money Matters, Keystone and Passport to Manhood helped Octavius navigate life’s daily challenges and gave him the tools to excel at school in order to graduate.

Meet Da’Miyah
Character & Leadership
Neighborhood violence, drugs, and the loss of a parent were some of the adversities Da’Miyah met before the young age of 7 at which time her grandmother enrolled her in Boys & Girls Clubs of Tampa Bay. Educational and social programs at the Clubs helped her break out of her shell and in 2020, she was recognized as our Youth of the Year. “The Club staff have become like my family and have helped me overcome my challenges and graduate with honors from high school.” Leadership programs like, Y.E.S. Academy and supportive Club staff helped propel her into the young, strong leader she is today.
Meet Angel and Julissa
Health & Wellness
After losing their brother to gun violence, these siblings were struggling to process grief. They lost interest in all activities and withdrew socially from their peers. Club staff, joined by their mother, were able to openly talk to the family about their loss which allowed the staff to identify ways to support the siblings. Angel has learned coping strategies through SEL Smart Moves curriculum and Julissa has felt a sense of belonging through the volunteer program offered at the Club. Nurturing and supportive mental health programs help Club kids like Angel and Julissa rise above the challenges they face in their daily lives.
